LW DC: Currently meeting once a month to discuss a specific topic (recent ones include Predictive Power of Science Fiction, Intuition, books you’ve read recently/book recommendations). Meet in the courtyard of the National Portrait Gallery (Gallery Place metro) on Sundays at 3:30, usually going until the close of the space at 7:00 but occasionally finishing earlier or going out to dinner afterwards. Averaging 10+/-5 attendees a meetup. Regular board game nights at the home of one of the old regular posted on the facebook group, I haven’t been and can’t comment. Other events posted sporadically.
Subjective: Recently had a change of organizers (I am one of the new ones), and a large shift in terms of attendees (several regulars stopped coming, several new people seem to be coming regularly). Conversations tend to wander from the topic fairly often.
LW Baltimore: Weekly meetups on a specific topic, more likely to be articles or blog posts than DC. Meet Sundays 7:00 at UMBC. Averaging 10 +/- 3 attendees a meetup.
Subjective: seems slightly less formal than the DC area meetup.
SSC DC: Monthly meetups in a private apartment lounge by Gallery Place metro. Usually 7:00 on Saturdays, run until ~11:30. Average 15 +/- 5 attendees. 1-2 potlucks a month at the homes of meetup attendees, announced through the mailing list. These tend to not be in central DC, which is less convenient for those that rely on metro but cut down travel time for those closer by that don’t want to head into DC proper. These tend to be smaller than the meetup proper but vary in size.
Subjective: No one actually talks about the blog, this is a running joke. Tends to be a more “so what do you do?” sort of atmosphere than the more focused LW meetups. In my opinion, harder to get into if you don’t know anyone there and aren’t good with new people. Occasionally gets to loud for me (I have mild sensory issues with noise).
EA DC: Exists. I have never been and can’t comment.
Discord: Recently created discord for local rats, thus far mostly event planning. Out of town visitors who would like to meet people welcome. Link.
